Hot Cocoa on a Cold Day!
Hot Cocoa on a Cold Day-one of my most recent daily paintings 9 x 12 on stretched canvas. I did this painting as a demonstration for one of our painting classes at Waverly Artist Group and Gallery. It has been oh so cold here in North Carolina. I wanted a fun way to keep us warm (ok, at least visually!), so each person had their own still life with colorful mugs, plates and of course marshmallows (a little sugar never hurts in keeping warm ya know)!
I love looking at this bright and cheery painting, and I wish I could drink some right now!
This painting is up for auction on daily paint works, and will also be up in our gallery at Waverly Place.

How much is that Kitty Cat in the Window?
This sweet cat was painted as an entry into the Daily Paintwork’s Challenge. The challenge was to paint artist Patti Vincent’s cat-from a black and white photo. The idea was that it would not matter what colors were used, as long as the “values” (lights and darks) were correct. I love this kitty! It was so much fun painting this, that I’m going to do it again-but in a different way! You can see more of this painting by visiting my dailypaintworks site. I also encourage you to check out artist Patti Vincent-her link is at the bottom!

Still Life Pear Palooza!
I recently had a commission to do 3 still life pears. I really enjoyed it-but then I could not stop! I have been doing pears for days now! I was framing this one to take to a gallery, and realized that I loved how “fresh” and free this one felt. I did this right after completing a workshop with fantastic acrylic artist Patti Mollica. She had us painting “under the gun” if you will. Where we would have either limited strokes (such as 25 strokes to finish an entire painting) or 5, 10 or 15 minutes to do a painting. Now for me, that is just a joke. I have officially nominated myself as the “slowest painter ever”. So, while I did not finish many paintings, it did help to “free me up” a good bit. I did not agonize quite as much about the brush size, brush type, brush stroke, color, warm or cool of that color, etc. Each painting there are probably 1,000 questions I ask myself or decisions to make (certainly on the larger canvases). In this painting, a lot of the thinking was on vacation-and really the instinct seemed to kick in. It was a nice feeling..and I hope to have it again some day!! 🙂

A Gift of Art from Germany, Edward Gordan
Need some inspiration for painting or just want to see something gorgeous? Look at the art of German Painter, Edward Gordon:
Recently I was surprised by a wonderful delivery to my mailbox. Inside of it was a gift of art, and the gift of friendship. I opened my package and found “Painting Berlin”, a book of selected works from German artist Edward Gordon. Several years ago I came across one of his paintings featuring a woman in a black dress-Immediately I was completely enamored with him, and was left wanting more. Thankfully, he is a daily painter and so I can get my fix of his work often. He skillfully takes lights and darks and arranges them as to give maximum impact, yet with such subtlety. My eyes are drawn in and travel through the image again and again, not wanting to leave. Edward Gordon’s use of color is powerful, and effective. It seems so thoughtful, yet the paintings come across as fresh. I feel such heart and depth in his paintings, I wonder how he accomplishes this in less than a day?! The paintings show his intimate relationship with the city and people of Berlin, and his ability to see the magic in even the most routine moments of life.
His work can be viewed by going to http://edwardbgordon.blogspot.com
As you can probably tell, I was excited to get this gorgeous book, but not just for the those incredible paintings. My dear friend who sent this book to me, is a busy career woman, with three school aged children, and a full and active life. The fact that she thought about me, and then saw this book and knew me well enough to know I would love it and took the time to send it me in the US. Well, I just don’t know what I did to deserve such sweetness. THANK YOU
The Birch Tree Painting Challenge
Recently there was a “Birch Tree” painting challenge on www.dailypaintworks.com. This led to me doing three (so far) paintings of birch trees-WHAT FUN! This is the first one I am going to submit. I have been busy painting, but not so busy at photographing and uploading. 🙂 That is alright with me, because it is ALL ABOUT PAINTING! This one is a 6 x 6, acrylic on board. It will be for sale via www.dailypaintworks.com. Also, you can expect to see it framed and hanging in the Waverly Artist Group Gallery tomorrow in time for Final Friday Art Loop!
Farmhouse Shadow-Today’s DPW Entry
I have not been posting on Daily Paintworks for a few weeks and am trying to get back into the swing of things. I’ve had a couple of weeks of travel, plus getting ready for some shows, and getting into the Waverly Artist Group Gallery, has kept the smaller works on the back burner. I hope to get back into my routine after the big Western Wake Artist Studio Tour November 9-11th. With things being so crazy busy, it was extra fun to get to post this!
6 x 6 Hay Bales-Acrylic on canvas board
This is a small study I did of some Hay Bales. I love how alive and colorful it feels! I wanted to add some more warmth to it-but when I did it got too “busy”. I will try that again as I plan on painting a slightly larger version. This is today’s entry to Daily Paintworks and is available in my online gallery.
German Landscape Challenge and Colorful Waterway-Daily Paintworks Entries
On Tuesday I submitted an entry for the DPW “German Landscape Challenge”. You can see my entry along with over 250 other entries at www.Dailypaintworks.com This was a fun one to do! I have a good friend in Germany and hope to get to visit soon. For now, this is as close as I get to the land of schnitzel!
For today, I am submitting another 6 x 6 of a colorful waterway. Check them both out at My Daily Paintworks Gallery!
Today’s Daily Paintworks Entry : “On the Way” Field of Flowers 6 x 6 on deep canvas.

At Peace 6 x 6
Today’s “Daily” painting is “At Peace” 6 x 6 acrylic on board. This was such a joy to paint! It came easily and felt free and fun! I love the Old buildings with a touch of moss on them-and how they reflect in the water with the fall foliage too.
Ahh-I’d like to be there right now!
“At Peace” 6 x 6 study is available via auction at my Daily Paintworks gallery.
