“Moo are You”? The Cow paintings continue..
I am still enjoying painting cows, and this little one “Moo are You” is no exception.
How could I not paint the sweet face on this precious calf?! “Moo are You” is 6 x 6 before framing and has just been hung at the Waverly Artists Group Gallery and Studio in Cary. Any other available cow paintings are there, or can be seen/purchased through my Daily Paintworks link.
Thanks for all the encouraging comments you have been giving me!

Cowabunga: Cow Art!
As of today I am on my 5th painting in a series of cows-The cow art has come to me, inspired by a recent trip to west Texas and by a family member who is currently obsessed with the bovines we have met. Cows are sweet and fun to paint-suprisingly colorful too-so, it’s right up my alley!
Wonderful Watercolors!
Here is the second in my mini-series of “mini” wonderful watercolor paintings! “Darling” is in a 5 x 7 frame, and ready to hang with it’s delightful, happy and pleasing colors it will make a wonderful addition to any home!
New Paintings: “Bite-sized” watercolors now available!
I am having so much fun with watercolors and florals now, thanks to the awesome Ken Hobson! I am doing a series of small, “bite-sized” or “mini watercolors. They will come already with a mat/glass and frame-ready to hang in your home!
Watercolor can be (okay it really is) HARD-but Ken has helped me to enjoy the process and have fun. I hope that you will “see” the fun and feel happy as you enjoy these new watercolor paintings. These paintings will be available through me directly or through the Daily Paintworks gallery.
Have a colorful day!

Painting at Whole Foods-Take Two!
Earlier this week I had another opportunity to paint at Whole Foods. This time we set up outside the main entrance and painted some of their flowers and herbs. It is terrific getting to interact with the employees and customers, be in the beautiful weather and paint all at the same time! Thanks to everyone who stopped by to say “Hi”.
“Onion on Pink Plate” aka Painting Produce at Whole Foods!
This week I had the fun experience of doing a painting demonstration at Whole Foods market in Cary. This was new to me on a couple levels.
I have never painted in a grocery store, or in front of a huge crowd, nor have I painted an onion. It was both fun and a little nerve wracking. One lesson I learned is that if you are going to cut and paint an onion, be prepared for your eyes to water. This can be a problem if you are trying to SEE while you are painting! Of all the produce there, I chose an ordinary onion. Why? I thought it was underrepresented in the world of still life, and I thought it was going to be a challenge to paint. It was, and made it even more so since I was talking to people and painting at the same time. In the future if I am going to multi-task at that level, I may just choose some apples, or pears-both of which I could eat as soon as I finished! The onion-not so much. This little (6 x 6) is getting framed and going to the Waverly Artist Gallery today.
The Citrus Challenge-Blood Orange Still Life
During this period of COLD, snow and more snow, I crazy one thing more than hot chocolate and cookies. Well, okay, after the hot chocolate and cookies, I crave citrus! This is my second entry into the Daily Paintworks Citrus challenge!
I am sitting around eating these luscious blood oranges anyway, why not paint them?
I love when I get to eat the “Fruits of my labor”!
You can bid on this painting (Starting at 25.00) by going to my Daily Paintworks Gallery (click on it to the right).
Daily Paintworks Citrus Challenge-A challenge indeed!
Taking a break from painting beets and winter and root vegetables, I decided to submit an entry to the Daily Paintworks Citrus Challenge.
I sat down with artist Monica Linares and we set up a still life to do from different angles. We had a good time, but decided that it takes almost as much time setting up the still life as it does to paint it!
Ahead of time you think on your subject. Well, we knew we would do citrus-so then you head to the store. A Whole Foods Market is in the same shopping center as our art gallery-which makes it easy to get nice produce. Then once you get to the produce section you are easily overwhelmed with choices: Lemons, limes, oranges, blood oranges, grapefruit, and so on. It’s funny how differently you choose fruit for painting-then you do for eating. I definitely go with a certain “look” in mind that I want to paint. If the produce is still good days later, I get to eat it too!
Once we are back with our produce then comes the discussion of which pieces of fruit to paint, and how to arrange them: 3 of one thing, 2 of one, and one of another. Do we want them in the bowl, or on a cutting board? Do we want them cut open, or whole? Once you get through all those decisions then the talk moves to what perspective: Do we want it at eye level, looking down directly, slightly elevated..? Then it has to look good from both our angles-we both want the right “arrangement” of fruit”. PHEW!
At any rate-we did it and still managed to be good friends when it was all said and done. Here are the two views we chose:
You can bid on my painting by going to the Daily Paintworks Gallery link to the right. You can see more of Monica’s work by clicking on the link to her site.

Daily Paintworks Interior Painting Challenge

Painting in the Winter-What to do?
Painting in the winter: Me plain air paint? Yes! Plein Air painting when it’s 12 degrees? Umm, maybe not this time. I think I will stay inside!
What’s a girl to do? Well I found the answer while browsing the produce section at my local Whole Foods store. I came across a beautiful winter vegetable..the Golden Beet! It’s colors were warm and bright and so beautiful! I did not know what it was, just knew I had to have it for painting! About the same time I saw a Daily Paintworks Challenge: Root and Bulbs. It was meant to be! So, this is my first entry to this challenge. I say first, because I have become completely obsessed with these beautiful beets! I am working on another painting of them…almost done too! I love their color, and amazingly-LOVE the taste too (peel, dice, add EVOO, salt and pepper and roast them-YUM)!
To see this one in person come on down to Waverly Artist Group and Gallery in Waverly Place, Cary. OR you can go online and participate in the auction. Check it out on my Daily Paintworks site.
