This painting was a commissioned piece done for a physician in Texas who has a great deal of land and a beautiful herd of buffalo roaming on his property. I had the good fortune of being able to fly to Texas to visit the land and these beautiful animals. They are wild, but when I was escorted by a person the buffalo were familiar with, they allowed me to get close. It was an exciting adventure! They were incredible animals. The one I painted, his name is “Baby”. However, he is not a baby, he is 2,800 lbs and the father of many “babies” of his own. He is a majestic and powerful creature, yet appeared thoughtful and sweet at the same time. This was “Docs’s” favorite buffalo and his nurse commissioned the painting as a surprise gift to him.
